No reliable smart assistant options existed for disconnected or rural environments, and cloud STT/TTS required constant connectivity and high per-request cost.
Solution
Built an offline assistant using Whisper.cpp for STT, a distilled instruction-tuned LLM in ONNX for intent handling, and Coqui TTS for multilingual synthesis, deployed on Raspberry Pi 4 with C++ glue.
